Fantastic Beasts 3: China's version cuts homosexual lines, Warner Bros responds

Fantastic Beasts 3 was released in mainland China on April 8 and in North America on April 15. Foreign media discovered that a six-second clip was deleted from the mainland version, and two lines about Dumbledore and Grindelwald's love, "Because I once loved you" and "The summer Gellert and I fell in love," were deleted.

Now Warner Bros. has issued a statement, responding to the reasons for the deletion of the homosexual lines in the mainland version of "Fantastic Beasts 3". Warner said: "As a film company, we are committed to maintaining the integrity of every film we release, which also includes making minor cuts in response to various market factors."

"We want to distribute our feature films around the world as the creators' finished products, but we have a history of making minor cuts in local markets. Fantastic Beasts 3 was asked to cut six seconds, and Warner Bros. complied with the local request and accepted the change, but the spirit of the film remains intact."

"We want audiences around the world to see and enjoy the film. It is important to us that Chinese audiences also have the opportunity to experience it, even with minor cuts," the statement added.
