Marvel's Moon Knight screenwriter: deeply inspired by Indiana Jones and Ghostbusters

Many Marvel fans have given high praise to the recently launched "Moon Knight" series, and the latest news from the director may make more viewers look forward to the future development of the show. Jeremy Slater, the series's head writer, recently said that the show was mainly influenced by two classic movie series: "Indiana Jones/Indiana Jones" and "Ghostbusters".

Compared to other superhero TV shows and movies, Moon Knight aims to bring a unique story and experience to the audience. As a comic character, Moon Knight is often called "Marvel's Batman." Slater said that part of the reason for using these two film series as inspiration is to avoid Moon Knight becoming a copy of Batman.

“When I came on board I said, ‘Look, most people think this is going to be a white-on-black version of Batman, punching muggers in alleys…’ To me, that’s boring because we’ve seen it so many times before,” Slater told Variety at the premiere. “So coming on board, I kept saying, ‘I want to see more Indiana Jones and more Ghostbusters.’”

In a more detailed explanation later, Slater expressed his hope to bring some works/series featuring a darker tone to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) suitable for all ages. Kevin Feige, the boss of Marvel Studios, is not only very supportive, but also hopes to have more on top of it. Slater said: "I want to bring some horror elements to the MCU, some scary monsters, and push the limits as much as possible. Kevin and Marvel are very supportive of this... At every point, he is pushing us to tell the best story, don't worry... if you need to restrain a little. The series will still be suitable for all ages... But I hope 'Let's get a PG-13 (teen) rating as much as possible'."
