'The Hurt Locker' Director Kathryn Bigelow to Direct Sci-Fi Film for Netflix

Kathryn Bigelow, who became the first female Oscar winner for Best Director with "The Hurt Locker", is about to make a new film. According to foreign media reports, she will direct the science fiction film "Aurora" for Netflix. This is her first feature film since "Detroit" in 2017.

The film is based on the upcoming novel of the same name by David Koepp, the screenwriter of "Jurassic Park" and "Spider-Man", who also serves as the screenwriter.

Set in Aurora, Illinois, the novel follows Aubrey Wheeler, a woman trying to make ends meet with her unruly son after separating from her criminal ex-husband. When a solar storm knocks out electricity almost everywhere, causing a worldwide blackout, Aubrey must take on the role of protector of her suburban community.

Aubrey’s estranged brother Tom is an extremely wealthy, neurotic, over-prepared Silicon Valley CEO who plans to ride out the crisis in a gilded desert bunker he built for maximum comfort and safety.

But the complicated history between the brother and sister is far from over. People feel like they are facing the end of the world, but little do they know that this is the retribution that is coming. This is just the beginning, and not everyone can survive.

The film will focus on how people cope with the breakdown of social order and a catastrophic global power crisis.
