Black female singer shares her audition experience for the live-action version of "The Little Mermaid" and still wants to play Ursula

The live-action version of "The Little Mermaid" is adapted from Disney's classic animation of the same name and will be released in North America on May 26, 2023. Recently, black female singer Lizzo shared her experience of auditioning for Ursula in "The Little Mermaid" online.

In the original version of The Little Mermaid, the sea witch Ursula is a key character. It is her temptation that causes the Little Mermaid to lose her life. Shortly after the media revealed that comedian Melissa McCarthy is expected to play the villain Ursula in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid, singer Lizzo also announced that she had auditioned for Ursula. Although she was not selected to play Ursula in the end, she still has a strong desire to play this role.

Lizzo did not express dissatisfaction with not getting the role, she just wanted to say that if she played the role, it would have a more modern and fashionable interpretation. She said: "Many people know that I auditioned for the live-action version of Ursula in The Little Mermaid. Although I didn't get the role, you know, I'm in a very good mood now. I want to play Ursula as a slut who likes to shake her hips and show off her charm."

Lizzo also felt good about her audition because she sang well. She has no grudges against McCarthy, and the two recently worked together on Adele's concert special. Although Lizzo's talent show was not available, McCarthy's performance as Ursula was definitely hilarious and outstanding.

The movie "The Little Mermaid" tells the story of a young mermaid who falls in love with a prince. In order to join the ranks of humans, she makes a deal with a sea witch and exchanges her voice for a pair of legs. Halle Bailey plays the mermaid Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric, Javier Bardem plays Ariel's father King Triton, Melissa McCarthy plays the villain Ursula, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina play Ariel's friends Flounder and Scuttle, and Daveed Diggs plays the red crab Sebastian.
