Despite reports that Hunt for Gollum would be two films, producers have confirmed that this is not the case - but another Lord of the Rings film is in the works. "I can tell you clearly that it's not two movies!" Philippa Boyens, screenwriter of "The Lord of the Rings", said in an interview, "That's a real misunderstanding, because we have already begun to prepare two different live-action movies conceptually. The first one is "The Hunt for Gollum", and the second one is still to be determined." The rumor that Hunt for Gollum would be two films began to spread partly thanks to an interview with Ian McKellen, who plays Gandalf. "We're trying a number of ideas, but most of them do include Gandalf," Bowens added, "so Gandalf could return in both live-action films." This isn't the end of potential expansions for The Lord of the Rings, either, with Bowens also hinting that if the upcoming The Battle of Rohan is a hit, there could be more animated films to come. "We have an absolutely fantastic second film that would be fantastic if animated," she said, "but let's see if there's interest." |
