It's been a big year for Andrew Garfield, who received an Oscar nomination for his performance in Countdown, and he's been in Spider-Man: No Home and many other films. So what's next for him? Garfield told Variety in an interview that he plans to take a break. Garfield's latest project is an FX exclusive called "Under the Banner of Heaven," which premieres this week. The series, based on Jon Krakauer's book of the same name, follows Garfield as a Mormon detective investigating murders committed by LDS fundamentalists. With such heavy material, Garfield said he had to make sure he took care of himself outside of filming. “I think it’s actually necessary for us to actually have some fun, be out in nature, go hiking…swimming, snorkeling, lakes, dancing and eating good food so that we can really come back and really bring our hearts and souls to the work,” he explained. “We have to continue to take care of ourselves so that we can perform this story.” When asked about what’s next after the series, Garfield told Variety that he’s in need of a break. "I need to take a break," Garfield said. "I need to recalibrate and rethink what I want to do next and who I want to be and just be a normal person for a while. Because as you know, awards season is like a washing machine. I just need to be normal for a while." Garfield was nominated for Best Actor at this year's Academy Awards. He also received acclaim for his portrayal of televangelist Jim Bakker in "The Eyes of Tammy Faye." While he may be taking a break now, that doesn't mean Garfield doesn't have plans for the future. As recently as January, Garfield expressed interest in appearing in a future Spider-Man film, stating at the time that he would do so "if it felt right." |
