"Alien: Revenge" is the latest work of 20th Century Fox's 45-year-old classic IP. It was directed by Fede Alvarez, the director of "Don't Breathe" and the 2013 reboot of "The Evil Dead". It was released on August 16 this year and has grossed over 350 million US dollars worldwide. Two months after its theatrical release, Alien: Revenge is now available on streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime Video and AppleTV+. The sci-fi thriller is the ninth film in the Alien franchise and the sequel to 2017's Alien: Covenant. Director Fede Alvarez told IndieWire that Alien: Taken is both a tribute to and a departure from the films of Ridley Scott and James Cameron. He explained: "Ultimately, I wanted it to be the rebellious child of the first two films. You look a little like your parents, but you don't want to look like your parents. You want to be yourself. That's the spirit of this movie." Alien: Reaper was a box office success, grossing $350 million worldwide, including $105 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo. This makes Reaper the second-highest-grossing film in the series (not adjusted for inflation), behind only Prometheus (2012). The sequel is also the highest-grossing horror film of all time worldwide for IMAX. Audiences have responded positively to the horror thriller, with critics giving it an 80% score and a slightly higher Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 85%. |
