Hideo Kojima turned down proposal to make a big-budget Death Stranding movie

Recently, Hideo Kojima and director Alex Garland were interviewed by Famitsu and talked about the topic of the live-action movie "Death Stranding".

Last December, Hideo Kojima announced a collaboration with independent film company A24 to film a live-action Death Stranding movie. A24's well-known films include Lady Bird, Snap, Moonlight, Whale, and more.

Kojima told Famitsu that he chose to work with A24 because he didn't want to make an expensive action blockbuster.

Hideo Kojima said: “I have no intention of directing it myself, so I cooperate with the producers on the plot and so on. I have received invitations from other studios to make a live-action movie of "Death Stranding", and most of them proposed to make a movie with a high budget and many explosions... But I don’t like this. I want to make a slightly different movie with A24.”

Shortly after Hideo Kojima announced Death Stranding 2 in December last year, he confirmed that a live-action Death Stranding movie was in development and that he "hopes to adopt a more literary approach."
