Fans of the hit Netflix series Squidward Idol in the United Arab Emirates will have the chance to play a real-life version of the series. The Korean Cultural Center in the capital Abu Dhabi is organizing a re-enactment of the show, but this time without the gore and violence. According to Gulf Times, the event will be held in two sessions on October 12, with two groups of 15 people in total. The center's event page said that four of the six series of games, including "Wooden Man", "Sugar", "Marbles" and "Ttakji", will be unveiled at the event. The real-life Squidward game will feature two hours of tournament-style matches. The eliminated players will be able to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines. The only thing to note is that there is no prize money for this event. The Korean Cultural Center staff will use sponge guns to shoot contestants who move during the "wooden man" period. Anyone caught moving will be eliminated. "338 people have signed up to participate in the game," said Nam Chan-woo, director of the Korean Cultural Center. Those selected to participate will wear T-shirts with the "Squid Game" logo, while staff will wear the pink circle, triangle and square uniforms worn by guards in the drama. "In order to maximize the dramatic element, the games in this series may seem a bit cruel. However, all the games in the show are popular games played by Korean children from the past to the present." Its director also hopes that people will learn more about Korean culture through "Squid Game": "Just like Korean pop music became popular all over the world in the 2010s, I think platforms such as Netflix will be a channel for disseminating video content such as Korean TV dramas and movies to the world." |
