Paramount also abandons DEI and will recruit based on competency

Twitter user Grummz discovered that after Disney, another Hollywood film and television giant Paramount is also abandoning DEI.

"Things are changing," he posted on X. Paramount is removing its DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) metrics and will no longer "set or use aspirational numerical goals related to the race, ethnicity, gender or sexuality of employees."

Hiring should be based solely on competence.

Reject game studios that still hold up the DEI banner, including Microsoft Xbox and CD Projekt Red. This has to change.

CD Projekt Red still has scholarships for non-white people, while Microsoft-owned Obsidian Studios' art director has said he wants to replace all white developers with people of color.

Perhaps more initiatives like this will help change these practices that are still prevalent in Western AAA studios.

Paramount is adjusting its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to comply with new directives from the Trump administration, according to media reports. The change reflects a broader trend in which some companies are responding to policy pressure from the Trump administration to cut DEI programs through executive orders.

Specifically, Paramount's co-CEOs announced in a memo dated February 27, 2025 that the company would no longer set or use "aspirational numerical goals" related to the race, ethnicity, and gender of recruits, and would stop collecting race, ethnicity, and gender data on its U.S. employees.

This decision is consistent with the Trump Administration’s goal to dismantle DEI programs in the federal government through Executive Orders signed on January 20, 2025, entitled “Ending Aggressive and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Prioritizing Employment-Based Opportunities” (EO 14151), and on January 21, 2025, entitled “Ending Unlawful Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunities.” These orders not only target federal agencies, but also encourage the private sector to abandon DEI practices that are deemed “unlawfully discriminatory.”
