Stephen Chow's company wins lawsuit, TV series "The King of Comedy 2018" has been revoked

Recently, Guangzhou Zhengkai Culture Communication Co., Ltd. issued a statement saying that the TV series "The King of Comedy 2018" filed in 2018 is not a sequel to Stephen Chow's movie "The King of Comedy" or any related work. The filing has been revoked and the filming plan has been terminated.

In April 2018, Lee Lik-Chi, one of the directors of the movie "The King of Comedy", published an article on Weibo, saying that he had received a lawyer's letter from Stephen Chow's company Star Overseas Limited for the movie "The King of Comedy 2018" he was about to shoot, claiming that it infringed copyright. At the same time, director Lee Lik-Chi said that the story of the new film had no specific connection with "The King of Comedy" and he was willing to modify it if there was any infringement.

Now, Guangzhou Zhengkai Culture Communication Co., Ltd., one of the responsible parties, issued a statement on Weibo, saying that the trial of this case has ended, and stated that "The King of Comedy 2018" has nothing to do with Stephen Chow and his company. At the same time, the filing of the drama has been revoked and the filming plan has been terminated.
