■ Main Characters

・Kamiyama Samatarou The eldest son of the "God Family" Kamiyama family, and the next God. He lives in the human world with his family as part of his training to become a great God in the future, but because he was spoiled by his overprotective parents from a young age, he grew up to be a completely lethargic person. He falls in love at first sight with Kumiko, a transfer student, and becomes motivated for the first time, but for some reason he is interested in Tenko, his childhood friend who is an angel.
Tenko is Samatarou's childhood friend and angel who keeps a watchful eye over him. She lives in the Kamiyama household as a maid and does all the housework, while also working hard every day to make Samatarou a great god. She tries to make Samatarou's first love come true, but is torn between her role as an angel and her feelings for him. She has a bit of a short temper, and when she gets excited, steam comes out of her head.
Kamiyama Venus: Samatarou's mother, she is a goddess as her name suggests. She has such youthful beauty and proportions that it's hard to believe she is the mother of three children. She dotes on Samatarou even more than her father, and won't forgive any girl who gets close to him, even Tenko. Nickname: Mama-san.
Kamiyama Jisamatarou's father, he doesn't seem like it at first glance, but he is actually the god who rules this world. He lives in a 25-year-old house in Setagaya to train the next god, Samatarou. He dotes on Samatarou, and makes his wishes come true, no matter how silly they are, by performing a "miracle." Nicknamed "Papa."
Misa Kamiyama: Samataro's older sister and a candidate for goddess. She attends the same high school as Samataro, and is the object of admiration for all the male students as a graceful and beautiful woman. However, at home, she becomes a bold, old man character, wearing a tank top and shorts and gulping down milk from cartons in one go. Using the "Breath of the Goddess" that can manipulate human emotions, she stirs up trouble and interferes with Samataro's first love.
Kamiyama Meme She is the younger sister of Samatarou who attends elementary school, and is also a candidate for goddess, just like Misa. She has a cool personality and doesn't show her emotions or facial expressions, and she makes statements that are unusual for an elementary school student, but she also cares for her brother. She is dragged into the turmoil caused by Mama-san and Misa without really understanding what's going on.
・Shinichi Kirishima A friend of Samatarou's in the same class. He has a very playful personality and is only interested in cute girls. Because of his personality, his girlfriend Ai Tachibana often cuts him off from her (lol).
Kumiko Komori: She transferred to Osaka, but transferred back to Samatarou's class. She is a little timid and easily influenced by those around her, but she has the personality to speak her mind when it matters, and she confesses her feelings to Samatarou soon after transferring to the school. She lives with her sickly mother, and behaves bravely for her mother.
・Tachibana Ai A girl who has been hospitalized in the same hospital as Shinichi for the past four years. She has been lonely and shut herself away at home since she was a child, but after losing her only friend, Ruru, she has closed herself off even more. She experiences a strange event in which she is reunited with Ruru, whom she thought she would never see again. In the world where time is turned back by Osamu's power, she has become a cheerful and natural person, and for some reason she is dating Shinichi and they are very much in love.
・Love (Lulu)
A baby found abandoned in front of the Kamiyama family. Samatarou and Tenko end up raising the baby, but it grows rapidly into a young girl. It turns out that the baby is actually Lulu, the only friend that hospitalized Tachibana Ai had, with whom she was separated four years ago.
・Suguru One day, a piggy bank suddenly appears before Tenko. It is a disguise for the sake of the world, but it is actually an archangel who came from heaven to bring Tenko back. When money is put into it, it has the ability to tell you the amount put in and the total amount. (laughs)
Fumiko: A mysterious woman who was in the apartment where Kumiko lives with her mother. She has a violent personality and chases Tenko around, brandishing a kitchen knife.

The appeal and reviews of Kamisama Kazoku

Kamisama Kazoku is an anime series based on a fantasy light novel that aired in 2006. The original story is by Kuwashima Yuichi, and the illustrations are by Yasuda Suzuhito. This work is a story of laughter and romance that unfolds as a family of gods lives in the human world. Below, we will take a closer look at the appeal and reviews of Kamisama Kazoku.

The appeal of the story

The story of the God Family centers around the growth of the next god, Kamiyama Samatarou. Samatarou lives in the human world with his parents, who are also gods, his sisters who are candidates to become goddesses, and his childhood friend, the angel Tenko, while training to be a god. However, because his overprotective parents allow him to do whatever they want thanks to their "miracles," Samatarou grows up to have a listless personality. The story follows him as he falls in love at first sight with Kumiko, a transfer student, and struggles to get her for the first time with his own efforts.

The appeal of this story lies in the exquisite blend of humor from the everyday life of the Kamisama family and the story of Samatarou's growth. Each member of the Kamisama family is unique, and the story is especially colorful with the overprotective parents and the unique characters of the sisters. Also, the process in which Samatarou falls in love with Kumiko and tries to win her over with his own power resonates with viewers. Furthermore, Tenko's torn feelings between her role as an angel and her feelings for Samatarou add depth to the story.

Character Appeal

Each character in the God Family is unique and charming. The protagonist, Samatarou, is depicted as gradually growing from a listless personality. His first love, Kumiko, leaves an impression as she behaves bravely for the sake of her sickly mother. Samatarou's childhood friend, Tenko, is also moving as she struggles between her role as an angel and her feelings for Samatarou.

Samatarou's parents, Kamiyama Osamu and Kamiyama Venus, are humorous and overprotective, providing laughs to the story. Venus in particular is youthful and beautiful, making it hard to believe she is a mother of three, and is known for her doting nature, refusing to let any girl get close to Samatarou. His older sister, Misa, is an elegant beauty who is the object of admiration for the boys at school, but the contrast between her personality and that of a boisterous, old man character at home is charming. His younger sister, Meme, has a cool personality and makes statements that are unusual for an elementary school student, but she also shows a caring side towards her brother.

In addition, many other unique characters appear, such as Shinichi Kirishima, a friend of Samatarou, and Fumiko, a mysterious woman who lives in the apartment where Kumiko lives with her mother. The relationships and episodes woven by these characters enrich the story.

Animation evaluation

The animation of Kamisama Family is produced by Toei Animation. The designs of Hideaki Maniwa, who was in charge of character design and general animation direction, faithfully reproduce the illustrations of the original work while bringing out the unique charm of the anime. In particular, the unique characters of the Kamisama Family are vividly drawn, making it a visual treat.

Additionally, the background art by art director Miki Michiyo realistically depicts the streets of Setagaya where the Kami family lives, as well as the interior of the Kamiyama residence. The colors by color designer Sakuma Yoshiko also play a role in enhancing the atmosphere of the story. The music was composed by Takei Hiroyuki, and the opening theme "Brand New Morning" and ending theme "The Secret of Angels That Won't Be Told in the Library" enhance the worldview of the story.

Viewer reactions and ratings

Kamisama Kazoku has been popular with many viewers since it was first broadcast. The humorous daily life of the Kamisama family and the story of Samatarou's growth were particularly well received. The characters' personalities and relationships were also highly praised, and it is said that Tenko's struggle between her role as an angel and her feelings for Samatarou was particularly moving.

However, there were also complaints that the story unfolded too quickly in order to conclude it in the short 13 episodes. Fans of the original work also criticized the anime's unique interpretations and the additional episodes. Nevertheless, Kamisama Kazoku was generally well received, and can be said to have been a success as an anime based on a fantasy light novel.

Recommended points

Kamisama Kazoku is a work that combines a fantastical worldview, humorous everyday life, and a touching coming-of-age story. The unique characters of the Kamisama family are particularly appealing and entertaining to viewers. The story of Samatarou's first love also evokes sympathy and is moving to viewers.
