Review

"Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo: Seton Tankentai! Sumida-gawa no Chikai ~Magaza no Shiryo no Omoide!~" is a TV special based on Akimoto Osamu's popular manga "Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo" and aired on Fuji TV from August 5 to August 12, 2007. The series follows the adventures of Ryotsu Kankichi and his friends as they search for a mysterious white whale that was spotted in Tokyo Bay.

The appeal of this episode lies in the humorous character of Kankichi Ryotsu and his determination to overcome the various difficulties he faces. Ryotsu sets out on a journey to find the white whale at Lemon's request, and with the help of his childhood friend and zoologist, Seton, he finally captures the whale. However, his adventure continues, and he comes up with one bold idea after another that is characteristic of Ryotsu, such as trying to use the white whale to build a sea park.

The story of this work is not just a comedy, but also depicts the importance of friendship and cooperation, and contains elements that will move the viewer. In particular, the friendship between Ryoutsu and Seton is depicted as they trust each other even in difficult situations, and there are many heartwarming scenes. In addition, in the process of searching for the white whale, themes such as protecting the natural environment and respecting animals are also addressed, making the viewer think deeply.

The animation was produced by Studio Gyallop, whose technical capabilities are superb, with a realistic depiction of the white whale and meticulously detailed views of the beautiful scenery of Tokyo Bay. Character designer and animation director Tanna Tsukasa's work is also superb, faithfully recreating the characters from the original while adding movements and expressions unique to anime, making them even more appealing.

Music is also an important element in enhancing the appeal of this work, and the background music by Ryo Yonemitsu and Toshihiko Sahashi helps to heighten the tension of the adventure and the emotional scenes. In particular, the music in the scene where they confront the white whale is powerful enough to grab the viewers' hearts.

The cast is also impressive, with the voice actors' performances bringing out the individuality of the characters, including LaSalle Ishii as Kankichi Ryotsu, Yumi Morio as Reiko Akimoto, Mitsuru Miyamoto as Keiichi Nakagawa, and Haruki Sayama as Manager Ohara. In particular, LaSalle Ishii's Kankichi Ryotsu is humorous, but the serious expression he sometimes shows is impressive, leaving a deep impression on viewers.

Although this work was only broadcast for a short period of two episodes, it is packed with story development, character growth, and messages that the show wants to convey to viewers. Through the adventures of Kankichi Ryotsu, the show makes viewers think about the importance of friendship and cooperation, and the protection of the natural environment, making it a work that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
