Tower of Druaga ~the Aegis of URUK~ Review and Recommendation

Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk is a 2008 anime TV series based on the game of the same name by Bandai Namco Games. It was produced by GONZO and Izumi Project under the direction of Koichi Chiaki. Below, we provide a detailed review and recommendation of the series.

story

The story is set in a special time called the Summer of Anu. During this time, the monsters in the tower lose their powers under the protection of the god Anu, making it the perfect opportunity for adventurers to challenge the tower in search of the legendary treasure "Blue Crystal Rod" that lies at the top of the tower. The nation of Uruk was founded by King Gilgamesh and begins an invasion to conquer the Tower of Druaga, which has been resurrected in the north. The base built on the first floor of the tower, "Tower City Meskia," is bustling with adventurers and the Uruk army preparing for their third campaign to defeat Druaga.

The protagonist, Jill, is a 16-year-old guardian with a sturdy physique that belies his appearance, but he has little experience as a warrior and makes many mistakes. He embarks on an adventure with Kaya, who inherits the bloodline of a shrine maiden, Amey, an experienced lancer, Melt, a magician, and Kupa, a servant. Meanwhile, a party of veterans led by Niva is also aiming to capture the tower, and the story depicts their adventures and growth.

character

Jill is the central character of the story, and his growth and adventures are the axis of the story. Kaya is a mysterious girl with an airheaded personality, and her baseless remarks lead the party. Amey is the most experienced climber among Jill and the others, and her leadership and combat skills support the party. Melt is a magician from a poor noble family in the country of Uruk, and although he has a selfish and nagging personality, he is also a genuine and lovable young man. Cooper is Melt's servant, and although she is often bossed around by her selfish master, she is a strong girl who excels at cooking.

Niva is a famous climber at a young age, and is nicknamed "Dragon Slayer Niva." He leads an expert party with Fatina, Kali, and Utu. Fatina is a high-handed magician who has a crush on Niva. Kali is a worldly light warrior who is also familiar with the underworld of Meskia City. Utu is a large warrior who uses a large axe as a weapon.

There are also many supporting characters who add excitement to the story, such as Kherub, the commander of the Uruk royal guard, and his lieutenant, Etana, King Gilgamesh and his aide Marf, and the mysterious man Pazuzu who operates in Meskia. The legend of Gilgamesh and Kai also adds depth to the story.

"Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of URUK" is a work that depicts adventure and growth within the heroic fantasy genre. The setting of the story, Tower of Druaga, closely retains the atmosphere of the original game while building a unique worldview for the anime. In particular, the depiction of the city of Meskia within the tower is realistic, depicting a lively town where adventurers gather, and has the power to draw viewers in.

Another highlight is the growth of the characters and the changes in their relationships. Jill makes many mistakes at first due to her lack of experience, but she grows as she goes on adventures with her companions. The battle scenes are also worth watching, depicting the fighting style of each character according to their job. In particular, there are many scenes where each character's individuality shines through, such as Jill's role as a shield Guardian, Amey's charge as a Lancer, and Melt's magic attacks as a Mage. In addition, the monster designs are also by Manabu Tanzawa, and you can enjoy the unique visuals of the anime while faithfully recreating the atmosphere of the original game.

Music is also an important element in adding excitement to the story, and Hitoshi Sakimoto's music conveys the tension and excitement of the adventure. The opening theme "SWINGING" and the ending theme "The Tower Climbers" also play an important role in adding excitement to the atmosphere of the story.
