Below, we will introduce detailed information and the appeal of this work, as well as its background and related works.

Overview

Gurren Lagann Parallel Works 2 is a 40-minute episode released by Aniplex and distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. It is directed by Imaishi Hiroyuki and produced by GAINAX, with TV Tokyo, Dentsu, Aniplex, and KDE-J as producers. story

In the distant future, people dig holes in the ground to build their homes, raise livestock, and live in fear of the occasional earthquake and rockfall. In one of these villages, Jiha Village, a young boy named Simon finds a mysteriously glowing small drill while digging a hole to expand the village. Meanwhile, Kamina, Simon's big brother, believes that there is a "surface" above the village, and leads a group of thugs called the Gurren Gang to break through the ceiling and get outside. One day, an earthquake causes the ceiling of the village to collapse, and a giant robot falls down. Kamina is convinced that "there was a surface after all!" and tries to confront the robot. At that moment, a girl named Yoko appears from the surface with a giant rifle, and reveals that she has been chasing the robot. In a pinch, Simon shows them the mysterious robot with only a face that he had previously dug up from the ground. This is the beginning of the story, and the start of the adventure of Simon, Kamina, and Yoko.

Main Characters

The following main characters appear in Gurren Lagann Parallel Works 2.

Parts 1 and 2 of the main story

  • Simon : The protagonist of this story. He is treated as an oddball because he is silent and has a craftsman-like nature, but he is highly respected by the residents of Jiha Village as an expert hole-digger. He doesn't like to be in the spotlight, and prefers to stay behind Kamina, whom he regards as an older brother. When he finds a small drill while digging a hole, it changes his fate...
  • Kamina : A passionate and ambitious team leader. He has a somewhat carefree personality, recklessly pursuing his romantic dreams, but at the same time, he has a strong charm that draws people in. He is like an older brother to Simon, and although the two have completely different personalities, they work together perfectly to overcome the enemies and difficulties that stand in their way. He is characterized by the tattoos (irezumi) carved all over his body.
  • Yoko : A beautiful sniper who never lets go of her huge rifle. After being saved from danger by Simon and Kamina, they start working together. Having survived the harsh conditions on the surface, she is much tougher than Simon, who is the same age. She treats the shy and naive Simon like a child. Even so, she occasionally shows signs of immaturity and fragility appropriate to her age.
  • Leeron : A mechanic from the same Littner village as Yoko. Later, he joins Simon and the others. He is always calm and objective, as if he has a philosophical outlook. A skilled mechanic, he is in charge of maintaining all the Gunmen, including Lagann. He is also the brains and narrator of the Gurren Brigade.
  • Viral : A mysterious beastman tasked with exterminating humans who have come to the surface. He pilots the Gunmen "Enki." He is a skilled Gunmen pilot, and torments Kamina and Simon.
  • Dayakka : The leader of Littner Village. He leads the villagers in resistance against the Gunmen army that is attacking the village. He is very sensible and serious.
  • Kitan : The leader of the beastman hunters "Black Brothers" and the eldest son. Is he more short-tempered and hot-blooded than Kamina? He often competes with Kamina in terms of personality.
  • Kiyo : The eldest daughter of the "Black Brothers." She has a better body than Yoko.
  • Kinon : A member of the "Black Brothers" and the second daughter. She has a laid-back personality and always does things at her own pace. Her glasses are her charm point.
  • Kiyaru : The youngest of the "Black Brothers." Perhaps influenced by Kitan, he uses language a bit roughly.
  • Rossiu : A boy you meet during your journey. He is sensible and speaks like an adult for his age.
  • Gimme & Dally : Twins who live in the village of Rossiu. Gimme is a mischievous boy and Dally is a shy girl.
  • Old Man Coco : A mysterious old man who appears before Gurren Lagann as he wanders through the mist and invites him to a hot springs inn. After that, for some reason, he ends up joining Team Gurren.
  • Nia : A girl that Simon discovers in the container. She is completely naive, but also possesses a nobility that other humans do not have. What will her existence bring to the Glenn Brigade?
  • Great Gurren Brigade : They were fighting against the beastmen in their own places, but after hearing of Kamina and his group's exploits, they began to gather in droves.
  • Chimilf : One of the Spiral King's four heavenly kings, nicknamed "Raging Chimilf." He is gifted with the mobile fortress-type Gunmen Daiganzan. He is a dynamic warrior just like his appearance suggests.
  • Adine : One of the Spiral King's Four Heavenly Kings, "Elegant Adine." A female beast with a scorpion tail. Her personality is cruel and harsh. She is gifted the Fortress Type Gunmen Daigunkai and the Custom Gunmen Sailoon.
  • Shitomandra : One of the four heavenly kings of the Spiral King, "Shitomandra of Lightning Speed". He is a handsome man with peacock-like wings, but he is also quite narcissistic. He has received the aerial fortress Gunmen Daiganten from the Spiral King.
  • Guarm : One of the four heavenly kings of the Spiral King, "Immovable Guarm". He is an armadillo-like beastman, but contrary to his comical appearance, he is very cunning. He seems to have known the Spiral King for a long time, and sometimes speaks disrespectful lines, even respecting Shitomandra.
  • Lordgenome : A king who lives in the royal capital of Teppelin and commands beastmen. He looks exactly like a human, but... his purpose in using beastmen to drive humans underground is shrouded in mystery.
  • Boota : A baby pig-mole kept in Jiha Village and Simon's pet. He was almost used as emergency food by the Glenn Brigade...!

Parts 3 to 4 of the main story

  • Simon : He was appointed commander-in-chief of the new government established in the royal capital of Teppelin, now known as Kamina City. He spends his days swamped with official duties. Though he still retains the appearance of a timid, childish boy, his facial expressions and appearance have grown into a more manly man.
  • Nia : She lives in Kamina City with Simon and her fellow Glenn friends. She has grown into a beautiful young woman in the seven years since she was a child. But what about her cooking skills?
  • Yoko : When the new government was established, she turned down the position she was asked to take and set off in search of a new frontier. Where is she now?
  • Leeron Littner : He was appointed Director of the Science Bureau of the new government. He continues to live his life as usual, developing rocket gunmen for lunar exploration and other projects.
  • Vilar : After going missing during the battle to capture Teppelin, he cooperated with the people who opposed the new government as a guerrilla. What is the true intention behind his actions, which do not seem to be simply revenge against Simon?
  • Dayakka Littner : Appointed Director of the Food Bureau in the new government. After the Battle of Teppelin, she married Kiyo and built a happy family.
  • Kitan Bachika : Appointed Director of the Legal Affairs Bureau of the new government. He seems to be just as hot-blooded as ever, but at the same time, he seems to feel suffocated by his current position. He's going to be an uncle soon.
  • Kiyo Littner : The eldest daughter of the Kuro brothers. After the battle to capture Teppelin, she married Dayakka. They seem to be building a happy family. She gave birth to a daughter in episode 17.
  • Kinon Bachika : The second daughter of the Kuro brothers. She serves as secretary to Assistant Director Rossiu in the new government. Her easy-going personality has disappeared, and she now has a stern expression that keeps people away.
  • Kiyaru Bachika : The third daughter of the Kuro brothers. After the battle to capture Teppenrin, she seems to be living with the Dayakka family. She looks after the pregnant Kiyou and helps with the housework.
  • Rossiu Adai : Appointed assistant to Commander-in-Chief Simon in Kamina City. His intelligence remains the same as it was seven years ago, but his somewhat rigid personality can sometimes annoy Simon. His personality makes him bitter about his former comrades who are irresponsibly enjoying peace.
  • Gimi Adai : Gimi was a young boy during the battle to capture Teppelin, but now he is a member of the New Government Defense Force and serves as an ace pilot of the new Gunmen Grapearl.
  • Dally Addai : He belongs to the Grapard Squad along with Gimi. He is a top-notch marksman and a good partner for Gimi.
  • Grandpa Coco : In the seven years since the Teppelin invasion, it has been revealed that he is actually a Sheep Beastman (Thieves). I still don't know what he's thinking, but he serves Nia respectfully.
  • Ginble & Sibella : Young secretaries who support Assistant Chief Rossiu. They are the elites of the new generation, and show contempt for all the members of Glenn Brigade except for Rossiu, whom they admire.
  • Great Gurren Brigade : Those who survived the battle to capture Teppelin are now living their own lives in Kamina City, some taking up positions in the new government and others working in other jobs.
  • Macken and Leite : They married after the Battle of Teppelin. They now have three children and run a repair shop in Kamina City.
  • Lordgenome Head : A biocomputer whose brain was secretly revived by Rossiu using the genetic information of Lordgenome. What is the "truth of the world" that will be spoken from its mouth?
  • Messenger Nia : When the human population on Earth exceeded one million, Nia awakened into another form. There is no trace of her former self, and she calls herself the "Messenger of the Anti-Spiral" and plots to annihilate humanity.
  • Boota : Simon's partner, the pig mole. Normally he would have grown up, but he seems to be still a child?
