The appeal and evaluation of Black Butler Book of Circus: A deep review of the third series

"Black Butler Book of Circus": The darkness and beauty lurking behind the scenes of the circus

"Black Butler Book of Circus" is the third anime series of the popular manga "Black Butler" by Yana Toboso, and was broadcast on MBS from July 12th to September 13th, 2014. Although it is a compact series with only 10 episodes, it has maximized the appeal of the original work and has gained new fans. In this article, we will take a closer look at the appeal and highlights of "Black Butler Book of Circus", as well as the production details behind it.

story

"Black Butler: Book of Circus" is set in Victorian England. Every time the circus troupe "Noah's Ark" moves, a mysterious incident occurs in which children disappear one after another. To investigate this incident, Ciel Phantomhive and his butler Sebastian Michaelis infiltrate the circus as members. There, they meet the unique members of the circus, including Joker. However, a terrible secret is hidden behind them. What is the true purpose of the circus? Can Ciel and Sebastian solve the mystery?

character

In addition to Ciel and Sebastian, the characters of the circus troupe members are particularly memorable in Black Butler Book of Circus. A stellar cast of voice actors, including Miyano Mamoru as Joker, Kaida Yuko as Beast, and Terashima Takuma as Snake, bring the characters to life. Joker in particular is a complex character who brings the circus members together as the leader, but also has his own past and conflicts. Also not to be missed is the intertwining of Beast's strength as a beast tamer and his feelings for Joker. Snake's silence and his communication with the snake he keeps with him are also uniquely charming.

Production Details

"Black Butler Book of Circus" was produced by A-1 Pictures. It was directed by Abe Noriyuki, with series composition by Yoshino Hiroyuki and character design and general animation direction by Shiba Minako. The series faithfully reproduces the atmosphere of the original work while adding unique animation elements to create a work that draws viewers in. In particular, the contrast between the glamour of the circus and the darkness behind the scenes is stunning, exquisitely blending visual beauty with the tension of the story. Additionally, the music by Mitsuda Yasunori is an important element in livening up the atmosphere of the work.

Theme song

The opening theme "ENAMEL" is sung by SID. Mao's powerful singing voice and the catchy melody composed by Aki Mime are impressive. The ending theme "Aoki Tsuki Michite" is a beautiful ballad sung by AKIRA, with lyrics and a melody that symbolize the theme of the work and touch the heart. These songs also further enhance the charm of "Black Butler Book of Circus".

Attractions

The highlights of "Black Butler Book of Circus" are the darkness lurking behind the circus troupe and the exploits of Ciel and Sebastian. The story is deepened by the depiction of the unique characters of the circus troupe, as well as their pasts and conflicts. Also, don't miss the process in which Ciel and Sebastian work together to solve the case. In particular, the scenes where Sebastian's perfect work as a butler and his demonic powers are on full display are spectacular.
