Warner DC head James Gunn has now clarified the fate of the HBO Max "Green Lantern" series that has been in production for many years. After Comic Book Resources reported that the HBO Max "Green Lantern" series has been canceled and will no longer be produced, DC Studios co-head James Gunn responded directly on Twitter, saying that this is completely fake news. The Green Lantern series has been in the works since 2019, with Arrow producer Greg Berlanti in charge of the project. In October of this year, it was announced that the focus of the show had shifted. The series will now focus on Green Lantern John Stewart, one of DC's first black superheroes and one of the characters who has held the position of Green Lantern for the longest time. Back in 2019, Green Lantern was confirmed to be in development alongside Strange Adventures. Berlanti said the series would be made specifically for the streaming platform and would be "unlike anything you've seen on television." “It’s an anthology of cautionary tales set in a world where super powers exist, and we’re taking the Green Lantern series into space in what promises to be our biggest DC series ever, but I can’t say more than that,” Berlanti said at the time. In August, it was announced that Strange Adventures would not continue on the streaming platform. Throughout 2022, many changes have taken place for HBO Max and DC: the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery Channel, and new plans for the DC Universe by the new heads of DC Studios, James Gunn and Pete Safran. |
