Unauthorized "Resident Evil" script-killing company issued a statement to apologize to Sony

On June 28, our website reported that a company had released a script-based killing game in the name of "Resident Evil". After receiving the news, Sony issued a statement saying that it had never authorized the news.

Today (July 2, 2021), China Film News reported that the two companies that released the "Resident Evil" script-killing: Shenzhen Juheli Culture Communication Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Youying Media Co., Ltd. jointly issued an apology letter to Sony.

The original text is as follows:

To Sony Columbia Pictures:

First of all, we would like to express our sincerest apologies for the recent announcement on Sony Columbia Pictures' official Weibo that it has never authorized the "Resident Evil" IP to any company or individual for any form of script-killing cooperation in China.

The cause of the "Resident Evil" script-killing incident came from our company's contact with a middleman who had a cooperative relationship with Sony Pictures. He claimed that he had overseas copyright cooperation with Sony Pictures headquarters and had reached cooperation with many well-known domestic companies. Therefore, Shenzhen Youying Media Co., Ltd. decided to cooperate with it and jointly develop the "Resident Evil" IP script-killing business, and synchronize the corresponding copyright cooperation information to Shenzhen Juheli Culture Communication Co., Ltd., which specifically coordinated the relevant matters, and recently the co-creation studio released posters on WeChat Moments and offline exhibitions.

After the poster was released and Sony Pictures issued a statement, we immediately contacted the copyright intermediary, hoping to do our best to conduct emergency consultations and communication with Sony Pictures. However, the intermediary prevented us from directly communicating with Sony Pictures officials on the grounds that they would confirm with Sony internal personnel until their official Weibo account issued a statement.

After learning about this, we immediately stopped all promotional activities related to the "Resident Evil" script-killing, and contacted the middleman several times, hoping to resolve this misunderstanding through active communication and negotiation. The middleman kept making excuses for various reasons, and after several twists and turns, we were finally able to contact Sony's official staff. In this regard, we express our deepest and most sincere apologies to Sony Instant Video, and we are deeply sorry for our failure to verify the authenticity and legitimacy of the copyright source due to our work errors. We also take full responsibility for the impact of this incident on Sony Pictures, and will handle such cooperation with a rigorous attitude and action in the future.

Once again, my deepest apologies.
