Mr. Martin didn't expect the TV series "Game of Thrones" to be completed before the novel

Game of Thrones premiered on HBO in April 2011 and became one of the most watched shows in history. The final episode of its eighth season set a record of 19 million viewers watching at the same time, and also created one of the most hated endings in history. After the last episode was broadcast, millions of fans petitioned for a remake on social platforms.

George R. R. Martin, the author of the original A Song of Ice and Fire, said in an interview with PBS: "My biggest problem was that when the crew started making the Game of Thrones series, I had already published four A Song of Ice and Fire, and the fifth one was released when it started in 2011. I had accumulated a lead of five books, and as you can see, each one is a big book. I never thought the crew would shoot so fast, but they did it, and even surpassed me."

The first book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Clash of Kings, was published in 1998, and the latest book was A Dance with Dragons in 2011. Martin started writing the sixth book, The Winds of Winter, in 2010, and it was expected to be finished in 2014, but it has not been finished until now. Martin said recently that if the progress is fast, it should be finished this year.
