Netflix's comic-adapted superhero TV series "Jupiter" has canceled its sequel

After just one season, Netflix's Jupiter Chronicles is coming to an end. Despite the fact that the series based on Mark Millar's comic book of the same name premiered less than four weeks ago, the series' cast has now been released from their contracts and there will be no sequel.

Netflix doesn't regularly release official audience data, but "Jupiter" was consistently in the top 10 streaming shows in the days following its premiere. However, the show didn't seem to live up to Netflix's expectations, especially for a high-profile project that cost more to produce.

Miller wrote in an official statement on Twitter: "I'm so proud of what the team has accomplished on Jupiter and the amazing work everyone has done this season. We have made the difficult decision to release these talented actors from their current contracts while we continue to explore the Jupiter Legacy series. We are confident we will be able to film again in the future, and for now I just want to thank you for your continued support and thank you to the cast and crew for making this movie look so great."

Miller will soon launch Jupiter: Requiem, a new comic book series that will continue the story of the series. While the upcoming comic book could be a way for the planned future TV episodes to set up narrative threads, it could also touch on unexplained mysteries from the show's first season.
