Rumor has it that Netflix canceled all of Zack Snyder's subsequent projects after the fiasco of "Moon Rebels"

Zack Snyder is best known today for his leadership of the defunct DCEU, colloquially known as the "Snyderverse," but the filmmaker has had a notable career both before and after his time at the helm of DC. His directorial debut was 2004's Dawn of the Dead, and he later made a spiritual sequel to that film in the recent Army of the Dead series. Both films came out of the same partnership with Netflix and had similarly ambitious plans. It was even revealed that Snyder's Moon Rebels and Army of the Dead exist in the same universe, sparking talk of crossover collaborations on future projects.

While it was previously unclear if the two series would crossover, or if the planned sequel Death Planet would ever be released, fans now know for sure. In a recent report about Snyder's Moon Rebels, it was claimed that Netflix had quietly canceled all future plans for the Army of the Dead series, marking a major change in the working relationship between the streaming platform and the troubled filmmaker. While no reason was given, it's likely that the failure of Moon Rebels led to this outcome.

The report, which focuses fairly extensively on Snyder's attempts to make the director's cut his signature move, mentions this information in the article. It also quotes Snyder as saying that he and his wife and creative partner Deborah "have ideas about everything." According to the duo, the Army of the Dead series isn't completely dead yet, as there are still plans to create a themed experience based on the movie at Six Flags. However, the much-anticipated anime adaptation of the series has been aborted, as well as all future movies in development.

There seems to be no going back for the Snyders, as the recently released director's cuts of Moon Rebels Parts 1 and 2 have performed poorly with critics and audiences. While the two R-rated versions received an improvement over the PG-13 versions, that doesn't mean much, as both films have a score below 50% on aggregation sites. As Snyder himself admits, the two films are nothing like the base versions, and in his opinion, they are two different realities. With this series of failures, Snyder's next major focus should turn to Twilight of the Gods, an animated project scheduled to be released on Netflix in September. Since Snyder was not involved in the screenplay, this project will likely be unaffected by his current string of missteps.

All of his recent projects seem to confirm that Snyder's signature style is indeed not conducive to the modern era, as the appeal and novelty of the sparkling visual storytelling style has greatly decreased since the success of 300. It will be interesting to see where Snyder goes next, but hopefully he can start over. Fans will have to wait and see for themselves what the filmmaker has next.
