Pixar's animated sequel "Inside Out 2" has now surpassed "Super Mario Bros." to become one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, according to Amazon's Box Office Mojo website. Currently, the film has grossed $1.371 billion worldwide, surpassing the $1.361 billion of Mario Bros. However, the highest-grossing animated film title is still held by Disney's Frozen 2, which has grossed $1.453 billion worldwide. Although Disney's 2019 The Lion King (not the original animated version) grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide, director Jon Favreau and many others do not consider it a true animated film. Inside Out 2 grossed $578 million in North America and $792.8 million internationally, compared to Super Mario Bros.’ $574.9 million in North America and $787 million internationally—as of today, both films have exactly the same domestic and international box office share of 42.2% and 57.8%, respectively. Inside Out 2 is also Pixar's highest-grossing film, surpassing the previous record held by Incredibles 2 ($1.242 billion). |
