The new cover of Empire features the entire cast of the Suicide Squad, which is set to be released in 2021. This sparked a new round of discussion about the upcoming sequel (reboot), and director James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) also joined the lively discussion and brought up the fact that many of the characters on this cover will not survive to the end of the movie. There was speculation on Twitter that Harley Quinn had "franchise rights" in the film (meaning DC wouldn't let Gunn kill her off because they had long-term plans for the character), but Gunn said that wasn't the case, "They gave me carte blanche to do whatever I wanted," and assured fans that he could kill whomever he wanted. Gunn then fanned the flames on Twitter by asking fans "which two characters" they think will make it through The Suicide Squad. That doesn't mean he's directly saying only the two main characters will survive, but he certainly hinted at the possibility. A Twitter user summarized the responses and found that in the answers to this question, Harley Quinn (113 votes), King Shark (58 votes), and Polka Dot Man (31 votes) received the most votes, becoming the people that fans believed were most likely to survive. |
