Disney and Sony negotiations are in trouble and Spider-Man may no longer appear in the Marvel Universe!

According to an exclusive report from the well-known media DeadLine, Marvel Studios and its president Kevin Feige may no longer produce the highly acclaimed "Spider-Man" series of movies, just because Disney and Sony cannot reach a new stage of the agreement; Disney originally hoped to obtain a part of this superhero IP in the future through a new agreement. Sources said that the ongoing dispute between Disney and Sony executives in the past few months has basically vetoed Marvel's participation in the future development of "Spider-Man", which means that we are very likely to not see the little spider appear in the future MCU!

You know, Marvel and Kevin Feige are in the limelight. "Avengers 4" topped the global box office, and "Spider-Man: Far From Home" surpassed "Skyfall" to become Sony Pictures' new box office champion. DeadLine sources said that Sony has two more Spider-Man movies in preparation , with directors Jon Watts and Tom Holland already in place, but unless things take a dramatic turn, Kevin Feige will no longer serve as the film's chief creative director.

There are many backstories involved in this dispute, but it all comes down to money , and it's easy to understand why both sides refused to budge. Disney demanded that future Spider-Man films be a 50-50 co-financing case between the two studios, and even hinted that the proposal covered Spider-Man from other universes. Sony flatly rejected this proposal, and executives also came up with another plan for Disney, which was also rejected by Disney.

Sony Pictures obviously doesn't want to share its biggest IP with others. And Disney has no interest in continuing the current agreement, because Marvel only gets 5% of the film's revenue (preliminary total box office)...

Basically, Sony's current decision is similar to saying to Disney: "Thank you, but we think we can win the NBA championship without Michael Jordan." Marvel's Kevin Feige can now be regarded as a Hollywood legend. His Marvel decade is perfect: he supervised and produced 23 superheroes, all of which became popular; total revenue of 26.8 billion US dollars, etc. He has publicly stated that he is very fond of Spider-Man and wants to make the latter one of the absolute protagonists of the MCU. If Disney and Sony can reach an agreement, he will undoubtedly continue to do so.

According to the informant's report, Sony Pictures CEO Tom Roseman and Kevin Feige have held multiple negotiations involving the possibility of the latter's wider participation in the Spider-Man universe controlled by Sony, including 900 characters. It is understandable that Roseman is shrewd and unwilling to give up half of Spider-Man, after all, Marvel has already obtained the merchandising rights of Spider-Man. Therefore, Sony has already insisted that Disney's asking price is too high.

Sony once thought it would have to make a Spider-Man movie every three years or so to prevent the IP from returning to Disney, but it now has a lot of movies on its plate. The Venom sequel is progressing well, and Morbius, Calvin the Hunter and the Sinister Six are also in the works.

Marvel/Disney, Kevin Feige himself, and Sony have not yet responded.
