'Star Wars' director says it's time for women to make Star Wars movies

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short in 2012 and 2016 for Saving Face and A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness, is directing an upcoming Star Wars film.

In a recent interview, Obaid-Chinoy said that the new "Star Wars" movie will continue to see Daisy Ridley return to play the role of Rey, and the film will also trace back to the origins of the series in the 1970s.

Obaid-Chinoy is "very excited" to direct the film and hopes to create something "very special." She added: "It's 2024 now and I think it's time for a woman to step up and shape the story in a galaxy far, far away."
