Alien star Sigourney Weaver receives Venice Lifetime Achievement Award

Recently, actress Sigourney Weaver, who starred in "Alien" and "Avatar", was awarded the Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 81st Venice Film Festival. Festival director Alberto Barbara said: "This actress who has been nominated for an Oscar three times has almost no competitors."

Alberto believes that Sigourney Weaver "paved the way for powerful actresses" in 1980s action movies such as "Alien". As a true collaborator, rather than just a plastic tool in the hands of the director, she has contributed to the success of many films. "She has extraordinary temperament, delicate gestures but not fragile. She has created confident and firm, energetic and decisive female images, and also demonstrated the strong aura and acumen of women."

Sigourney Weaver rose to fame playing Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott's sci-fi thriller Alien. A few years later, she reprised the role in James Cameron's Alien 2, for which she received her first Oscar nomination. She has continued to have great success over the decades, starring in such films as Working Girl, Gorillas in the Mist, The Ice Storm, and the Avatar series.

"I am deeply honored to receive the Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement," Weaver said in a statement. "Receiving this award is an honor I share with all of the filmmakers and partners I have worked with over the years."

It is reported that last year, the Venice Film Festival was awarded the Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement to director Liliana Cavani and Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai. The 81st Venice Film Festival will announce its full lineup on July 23 and will be held from August 28 to September 7.
