Netflix to produce live-action movie Beyond Good and Evil, directed by director of Detective Pikachu

Today, Netflix announced that Ubisoft's "Beyond Good and Evil" game will be adapted into a live-action/animated movie, directed by Rob Letterman, the director of "Detective Pikachu".

Beyond Good and Evil takes place in the 25th century on a remote mining planet that is under attack by aliens. The military rulers who promised to protect the inhabitants may be allied with the invaders. In this environment, a young photojournalist named Jade is recruited to become a member of the underground resistance movement.

The game launched in 2003 to mixed reviews from the press. However, it developed a large following over the years until 2017 when Ubisoft announced that a prequel, Beyond Good and Evil 2, was in the works but would not be released until April 2021.

The live-action Beyond Good and Evil movie is still in the early stages of development and is currently seeking a screenwriter to adapt the game's story.

Netflix has a large number of game adaptations in development or already aired, including "Castlevania", "The Demon Hunter", and the "Splinter Cell" animated series announced yesterday.
