Resident Evil film director to direct live-action adaptation of House of the Dead

Resident Evil film director to direct live-action adaptation of House of the Dead

Remember those "classic" Resident Evil live-action movies that had almost nothing to do with the original games? According to Deadline, Paul WS Anderson, the director of the old Resident Evil movies and 2020's Monster Hunter live-action movie, will direct a live-action adaptation of a game we are familiar with - Sega's classic arcade shooter series "House of the Dead".

It is reported that in addition to Paul Anderson, Jeremy Bolt, the British producer of the "Resident Evil" series of films, will also serve as the producer of this film. No cast has been confirmed yet, but based on past experience, Paul Anderson's wife, American model Milla Jovovich, is likely to play the leading role.

Fortunately, after "Sonic the Hedgehog", SEGA now has more experience in making successful game movies. This time, it has chosen to cooperate with the "Sonic" media company Story Kitchen. Anderson and Bolt will need to cooperate with multiple screenwriters of this company, and Toru Nakahara, the game producer, senior executive, and supervisor of the "Sonic" movie, will be the sole executive producer.

While House of the Dead does have an interesting story, it's mostly just an arcade game of shooting zombies, so it's likely to be adapted into a horror film. Anderson told Deadline: "It's not going to be filled with a lot of backstory, because that backstory might exclude people who don't know anything about House of the Dead." He said the film will include his usual action scenes and is currently planned to be 90 minutes long.

Bolt also talked about the original House of the Dead game, and said that the zombie design of the original will continue. He mentioned that the game's director Takashi Oda never called these creatures "zombies", but "creatures" because they come in various types, are intelligent and fast. He said that House of the Dead is different from Resident Evil: "These are more like weaponized mutations." The one I remember most is House of the Dead 3, which has compiled sloth monsters (Fools) and human-faced plants with tentacles (Suns).
