Apple buys Stan Smith's new film "Freeing the Slaves" for a record $120 million

Previously, we have reported that Will Smith will star in a new action thriller "Emancipation", which is expected to start shooting next year. Recently, according to foreign media Deadline, "Emancipation" was bought by Apple for a record price of $120 million.

There were seven bidders for the new action thriller "Freeing the Black Slaves" starring Spahn. The bid price exceeded $75 million, and finally came to Warner and Apple, and Apple finally completed the deal last night. Sources said that the net amount of the bid was $105 million, but if the total buyout amount at the back end is taken into account, the transaction amount of "Freeing the Black Slaves" will exceed $120 million after all the deals are completed.

“Freeing the Slave” will be released in cinemas before being streamed globally on Apple TV+.

Slave Peter

Written by Bill Collage (Assassin's Creed), Freeing the Slave is based on the tragic true story of slave Peter - a widely circulated photo of his whipped back. Peter was a slave on a Louisiana plantation when he was severely whipped by a plantation overseer, nearly killing him. Peter decided to escape to the North, where he joined the Union Army.

During a medical examination, Peter showed his back to the army doctors, who took photos of his scars. In May 1863, The Independent published a photo titled "The Scarred Back." The photo went around the world and was seen as evidence of the cruelty of slavery in the United States. It helped fuel the abolition movement and prompted many free blacks to join the Union Army to fight against racists in the South.
