In recent years, there have been some low-key and slow-burning horror films, such as "It Follows" and "Hereditary". Now, there is a new horror film "The Lost Family" that inherits this style. The film tells: Kay (Emily Mortimer) and her daughter Sam (Bella Heathcote) go to the old country house where her elderly mother Edna (Robin Nevin) lives alone. Edna mysteriously disappears, but mysteriously reappears a few days later, covered in dirt, as if she had wandered in the woods. She insists that something has broken into the house, and when Kay and Sam think she is just insane, abnormal phenomena follow one after another... "The Lost Family" is the feature film debut of director Natalie James and was shown at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The film currently has a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, taking into account 13 reviews. Variety wrote: "Mysterious, sad, and creepy..." Polygon wrote: "Lupin Navin does a great job of building sympathy, then piercing it." RogerEbert.com wrote: "A stylish, eerie production that tells the haunted house story from a whole new perspective." "The Lost Family" will be released in theaters and on demand online on July 10. |
