The plaintiff in the advanced on-demand video case said he would no longer use iQiyi due to privacy violation

Today (June 4), Wu Shengwei, the plaintiff in the "iQiyi Joy of Life Advance On-Demand Case", posted on Weibo that he does not plan to continue using iQiyi because his movie viewing records were made public by iQiyi during the trial.

Wu Shengwei said: "I don't plan to continue using iQiyi, not because of the advanced on-demand program, nor because of the Star Diamond membership, but because they took out my viewing records during the trial, hundreds of pages. I feel that my privacy has been seriously violated. This app makes me feel insecure and I can be spied on at any time."

On June 2, the Beijing Internet Court pronounced a verdict on the "iQiyi Joy of Life Advance On-Demand Case". The verdict stated that the "advanced on-demand" was illegal and constituted a breach of contract. The defendant iQiyi provided the plaintiff with the VIP membership rights that the plaintiff originally enjoyed for 15 consecutive days, and the defendant compensated the plaintiff for the loss of notarization fees of 1,500 yuan, and rejected the plaintiff's other claims.

In response to this judgment, iQiyi responded in the afternoon of the same day that it reserved the right to appeal and insisted that the introduction of the advanced on-demand mode was to meet users' increasingly diverse content viewing needs.

iQiyi said: "We are grateful to the Beijing Internet Court of First Instance for not denying our exploration and attempts, and affirming that 'there is nothing wrong with the advanced on-demand model itself'. We will continue to improve our products and services to bring you a better experience."

It is understood that in December 2019, iQiyi and Tencent were controversial for the new model of advanced on-demand streaming of the online drama "Celebrating More Than Years". In February 2020, Gong Yu, founder and CEO of iQiyi, responded that it was currently only being tried on a few dramas, and the model was very successful. It will become a normal practice in the future and will be expanded in scale.
