Disney announced today that a new "Star Wars" movie directed by "Thor 3" director Taika Waititi is under development. In addition, Russian screenwriter Leslye Headland will produce a "Star Wars" TV series to be broadcast on Disney+, where she will serve as screenwriter, executive producer and producer. According to Disney, Taika Waititi will be the director and co-writer of the new Star Wars film, which will be released in theaters. Krysty Wilson-Cairns, the screenwriter of 1917, will co-write the script with Waititi. It is not clear what kind of story Waititi and Wilson-Cairn will explore, but IGN believes that Disney's new "Star Wars" movie does not rule out the development of a new trilogy. Earlier, Waititi served as the director of the final episode of the first season of the "Star Wars" spin-off "The Mandalorian" and dubbed the IG robot character, which received wide acclaim from fans. "Thor 4" directed by Waititi is scheduled to be released on February 11, 2022, so this "Star Wars" movie will not be available to the audience until 2023 at the earliest. |
