Director of "Dying to Survive": Oscars are not the ultimate goal for Chinese filmmakers

Recently, Wen Muye, the director of "Dying to Survive", talked about his love of watching movies for the first time in a live broadcast. He believes that the Oscars are not the ultimate goal of Chinese filmmakers, "We still have to make sincere movies."

Wen Muye has a special habit of watching movies. He will watch the works of his favorite directors many times in a row. In this regard, he cited the example of Alejandro González Iñárritu: "He has watched each of his works no less than ten times. The first time he watches it, he will not think about professional things. The third time he will turn off the sound. The pure visual presentation will be more obvious and more intuitive." He also watched Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain" "30 times".

Regarding the previously popular "Parasite", Wen Muye believes that this movie is very representative in the current environment. "This movie looks very small, but it uses the techniques of genre films to the extreme."
