The Last of Us TV series writer confirms Ellie's sexual orientation will not be changed

"The Last of Us" was announced some time ago to be made into a TV series by HBO. Today, the show's producer and screenwriter Craig Mazin responded to fans' questions on Twitter, confirming that Ellie's sexual orientation in the show would not be changed.

Although Ellie was just a follower in the first game of The Last of Us, and her sexual orientation was not mentioned, in the DLC "Legacy", players have the opportunity to play as Ellie, and also reveal the important events before she met Joel, and confirm her sexual orientation through the passionate kiss between her and her lesbian friend at the end of the story. Ellie is a relatively rare lesbian heroine in 3A masterpieces, and Craig Mazin is very aware of the importance of this key setting.

The LGBT community was once marginalized by society, but now it means a lot to them to be viewed and respected by the mainstream media, so this identity of Ellie must be retained.

"The Last of Us" is set in an extreme apocalypse. The moral norms of today's human society are no longer applicable, but we still see that everyone should have the freedom to pursue love.

In fact, most apocalyptic themes also highlight human nature through extreme environments. Ellie and Joel can always find some comfort and happiness from the small objects left over from the old times. When everyone is in danger of losing their lives, people may be more inclined to enjoy themselves in the moment without too many concerns.
