The official novel of "Star Wars 9" confirms that Rey's biological father is a failed clone of Emperor Pa

The most controversial plot in the final chapter of the new Star Wars trilogy, Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker, is the fact that Rey is Palpatine's granddaughter. Although the screenwriter wanted to create a vivid and bright image born from extreme darkness, this twist really made many fans question "Where did Skywalker rise?"

According to the newly released official novel of "Star Wars 9", the book completes more settings about the Sith and Palpatine, and announces the identity of Rey's biological father - Palpatine's failed clone...

Therefore, Rey does not have a so-called "grandmother". In the novel, she pretends to participate in the Sith ritual to deceive Palpatine, and then she peeks into the past of her "grandfather". Palpatine injected his consciousness into the clone body after his physical body dissipated, but this transfer was not perfect, so the Sith members worked tirelessly to create a perfect new vessel for Palpatine.

One of the clones was described as a "useless, powerless piece of trash" during one of the attempts, a cloning failure, so while this body was unsuitable to contain Palpatine's powerful forces, he survived and eventually became Rey's father.

Back in January, The Rise of Skywalker screenwriter Maryann Brandon revealed that in order to condense the film, the final version released cut a lot of Palpatine's backstory. The first draft of the film further delved into "what keeps Palpatine alive" and could pave the way for the explosive point in the released version that Palpatine is a clone.

Palpatine's return in the new trilogy puzzled many fans, and now it seems that most of the settings about the Sith need to be completed through official novels outside the movie. At present, people speculate that the reason why Palpatine did not punish these failed clones is that he also hopes that his clones can give birth to a child who is capable of inheriting the throne of the Sith-such as Rey.
