A model of successful cosmetic surgery: the new design of Sonic the Hedgehog took only 7-8 weeks

Although it has not been released in China due to the outbreak, Paramount's "Sonic the Hedgehog" has become the most successful video game adaptation movie of all time. Looking back at the global boycott caused by the initial Sonic design in the early stage of promotion last year, many fans were filled with emotion.

In an interview with FXGuide, the film's visual effects supervisor Ged Wright revealed how long it took the design department to correct Sonic's appearance after the film's director and producers accepted fans' suggestions for modifying Sonic's appearance.

"... the team had already done a lot of work before this, like details on how Sonny's fur should look, what kind of eyelashes he should have, how we should handle the eyes, etc. All of these things could be directly applied to the new design. I think it only took 7 or 8 weeks to redesign Sonic's look, which is also the fastest 3D character design record on the team."

Wright also thanked director Jeff Fowler for his respect for the artists on the team. "Jeff came to Vancouver with the Paramount people and gave a friendly speech to the entire crew, instead of sitting in Los Angeles and giving orders. Instead, he came to thank the crew for their efforts...Jeff took the time to talk to the artists one by one, and he realized that people sacrificed a lot of their personal lives in this regard and needed to be thanked."

"Sonic the Hedgehog" was originally scheduled to be released in mainland China on February 28, but has now been withdrawn and the specific time has not been determined.
