Netflix's live-action "One Piece" series was a hit after its first test screening. According to Divinity Seeker, a well-known Hollywood news media Twitter account, viewers have not responded well to the private unveiling of the highly anticipated TV series, mainly due to poor CGI quality and confusing plot. Netflix is rewriting the entire story of the series. If you're not a fan of the original One Piece series, you obviously won't be able to follow the story. Meanwhile, those who are familiar with the original series find themselves confused by the adaptation. One notable departure was the introduction of the series' central characters, with Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji all introduced in the final 15 minutes of the pilot, while the anime took 20 episodes to get to that point. Another complaint was the unstable tone of the adaptation, which jumped jarringly between silly and hilarious and very serious. Divinity Seeker: In the first episode, the first half is all flashbacks/younger version of Luffy, then it jumps to the present day and rushes to introduce Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji in the last 15 minutes. The tone of the show isn't right either, with some of the actors' makeup/looks looking off, and the show jumping between over-the-top silliness and seriousness in a jarring and inconsistent way. |
