"Shang-Chi" actor Simu Liu: The stereotyped image of Asians on screen has begun to change

Recently, Awkwafina, the female lead of Marvel's new film Shang-Chi, won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Category, which caused heated discussions at home and abroad. Recently, Simu Liu, the male lead of Shang-Chi, also tweeted that the stereotyped image of Asians on the screen has begun to change.

Simu Liu, the male lead of "Shang-Chi", wrote on Twitter: "Of the reboots in the past 10 years, what I am most grateful for is the reboot of the image of us Asians." Previously, these Asian images were often interpreted by white people and contained some offensive elements.

The famous "Fu Manchu" image appeared in the picture accompanying Simu Liu's Twitter. This time, an Asian character "Mandarin" will also appear in "Shang-Chi", and will be played by the famous Hong Kong film emperor Tony Leung. I wonder what new interpretations "Shang-Chi" will give to these two Asian superheroes and villains.

Marvel's new Asian superhero film "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" will be released in North America on February 12, 2021. Canadian-Chinese Simu Liu will play the protagonist "Shang-Chi", Tony Leung will play "Mandarin", and "Crazy Rich Asians" star Awkwafina will play the heroine.
