Mulan is a 2020 Chinese-themed costume war action film produced by Walt Disney Pictures, directed by Niki Caro and written by Elizabeth Martin, Lauren Heinecke, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The film is a live-action remake of the 1998 animated film of the same name. Its content is adapted from Chinese folklore, a heroic story of a woman named Hua Mulan who joins the army in place of her father. The protagonist Hua Mulan is played by Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei, and other actors include Donnie Yen, Gong Li and Jet Li.

Plans for a live-action adaptation of the animated film Mulan began in 2010, but the project was never given the green light. It was not confirmed until March 2015, and Cai was hired to direct in February 2017, making her only the second female director to direct a film with a budget of over $100 million, following Ava DuVernay for A Wrinkle in Time (2018). In September 2017, Liu Yifei was chosen from a pool of 1,000 actors to play the lead role in the film, with the rest of the cast joining the following year. Filming began in August 2018 and lasted until November, primarily taking place in New Zealand and China.

The story tells of an ancient Chinese emperor who issued a decree that every family must send a male to fight in the battlefield to protect the country from northern invaders. Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of a noble warrior named Hua Hu, cannot bear to see her sick father sacrifice himself, so she decides to disguise herself as a man and join the army in his place. She is severely tested every step of the way and must harness her inner strength to embrace her true potential.

"Mulan" is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 27, 2020.
