The 2019 box office dark horse Joker directed by Todd Phillips recently released the original script of the movie co-written by Phillips and Scott Silver online. In addition to the two screenwriters' explanation of their understanding of the film's tone and its connection with the DC universe, the most concerned part is the deleted scenes of Arthur the Joker's neighbor Sophie. Sophie can be called the "heroine" of the movie. This clown's neighbor has always been close to Arthur Fleck in his mind, reflecting his yearning for normal love. However, in the movie, after Arthur broke into Sophie's room, he realized from the latter's panicked reaction that all this was an illusion, and then left. Director Phillips personally explained after the release that Sophie is still alive and was not killed by the Joker. This newly released deleted scene explains everything. First of all, on page 78 of the script, after the Joker killed Randall, he took out cash from his wallet and stuffed the cash and a note into an envelope with "Sophie" written on it. The message on the note was "Murray Franklin tonight - remember to watch!". The corresponding next scene is from Sophie's perspective on page 96 of the script, where she sees Arthur killing Murray on TV and reacts with horror: she wakes up her children, who start crying. Director Todd Phillips finally deleted these two shots, saying that they broke the integrity of all the shots focusing on Arthur and violated the theme of the movie. But now fans can be sure that the Joker did not kill Sophie, but only presented her with his murderous image. |
