Peaky Blinders writer quits as screenwriter for new Star Wars film, delays production

Variety reported today (October 25) that "Peaky Blinders" screenwriter Steven Knight has resigned as screenwriter for the new Star Wars movie. It is not clear why Steven Knight made this decision.

Steven Knight took over as screenwriter of this film from Damon Lindelof (representative works "Prometheus" and "Cowboys and Aliens") in May 2023.

Lucasfilm and Disney are already actively searching for Knight's replacement, so filming is now unlikely to begin before the second half of 2025.

The film will focus on Rey Skywalker's life after Episode IX and her attempts to establish a new Jedi Order. The film is still directed by Shamien Obeid, who previously directed many short films and episodes in the Ms. Marvel series.

The next Star Wars movie, subtitled The Mandalorian and Grogu, is scheduled to be released in May 2026. Two more films in the series are scheduled to be released in December 2026 and 2027.
