Cartoonist Jim Davis will auction off 11,000 Garfield comics he created over 33 years. The auction started in August this year, and the prices of the originals that have been successfully sold range from $500 (about RMB 3,500) to $3,000 (about RMB 21,000). As for why the auction was chosen, Davis, the 74-year-old founder, said: "There are so many comic manuscripts, and it is a very difficult task to figure out how to deal with them. If they are auctioned off, everyone can enjoy them." Heritage Auction House in Dallas, USA, started auctioning these manuscripts in August this year, with two cartoons per week, and the Sunday edition will be sold at the largest auction of the year. A normal cartoon ranges from 500 to 700 US dollars, and the Sunday edition can be sold for 1,500 to 3,000 US dollars. The auction of the original Garfield manuscript is expected to continue in the next few years, and has attracted many comic collectors to open their wallets. 36-year-old Nagib Baltagi has purchased more than 20 manuscripts and said that they can trigger a special resonance for him because he has loved reading these comics since he was a child. |
