The paid advance on-demand streaming service of "Joy of Life" angered netizens, and Tencent Video said it was not considerate enough

Previously, Tencent Video and iQiyi, two major video website platforms, launched a paid model for advanced on-demand viewing based on the membership system. Members can spend 50 yuan to purchase an accelerated rights package and always watch 6 episodes of "Joy of Life" in advance. This also caused controversy online. Some netizens bluntly said, "Are you crazy about money?" Some netizens believed that their membership rights were not guaranteed and they did not enjoy the treatment that members should enjoy. In response, Wang Juan, editor-in-chief of Tencent Video, responded.

At the 2019 Sansheng Fourth China New Entertainment and New Consumption Annual Summit, Wang Juan, vice president of Tencent Video, said: "(Tencent Video) is not considerate enough about the members' notifications and their consumption psychology. This is our bug and where we are not doing well."

In fact, since this year, Tencent Video has tried to provide advanced on-demand services for many dramas such as The Untamed. The advanced on-demand payment model, member ads, and ads inserted in dramas... The reason why video platforms are so eager to "harvest" members is that the three major video platforms are suffering from high losses.

CCTV.com commented that "one has to be patient when trying to fleece the sheep, and one cannot fleece the sheep repeatedly". The People's Daily also criticized the video websites for their ugly behavior and for creating anxiety to induce users to consume. It called on relevant departments to supervise acts that infringe on consumer rights, and bluntly stated that this operating "routine" is actually "fishing in a dry pond and hunting in a burned forest."
