The screenwriter of "Game of Thrones" is planning to shoot a Cthulhu-themed movie, and netizens are furious

Screenwriters David Benioff and DB Weiss, who are famous for the TV series "Game of Thrones", have signed a new contract with Warner Bros. Pictures to shoot a Cthulhu mythology-themed movie.

According to Deadline, Benioff and Weiss have invited Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, screenwriters of Aeon Flux, to write the script. In addition, Karyn Kusama, director of The Invitation and Destroyer, has been appointed as executive producer. The film will be adapted from the graphic novel written by Rodionoff, Keith Giffen and Enrique Breccia.

Not much information has been released about the film yet, but it is certain that it will be set in the 1920s based on the Cthulhu mythology. One of the main premises is: "What if Mr. Ai is not making it up? What if those ancient evil gods are real?"

Benioff and Weiss have been in discussions with Warner Bros. about the film for years, during which time they have been overseeing the production of Game of Thrones, including its controversial final season.

Before announcing the filming of the Cthulhu Mythos movie, the two producers had just announced their withdrawal from the filming of the "Star Wars" series because their schedules were too full.

Benioff and Weiss revealed to IGN: "We have worked with HBO for more than a decade, and we are grateful to everyone there for making us feel like home. We have had many discussions with Cindy Holland and Peter Friedlander over the past few months. We share the same memories of 80s movies, we love the same books, and we are equally excited about new storytelling possibilities. Netflix has created so much unprecedented content, and we are honored to have them invite us to join us."

Given the performance of these two screenwriters in the final season of Game of Thrones, netizens were speechless after learning about this, such as: "The movie is over, where is Cthulhu? D&D: Oh, right, we forgot."
