The Irishman director: Don't watch this movie on your phone, at least use an iPad

Martin Scorsese’s three-and-a-half-hour epic The Irishman hit Netflix and its app last Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean the director wants viewers to watch it on their phones.

In an interview with YouTube commentator Peter Travers, Martin Scorsese said: "My suggestion is that if you want to watch one of my films or more of my films, please don't watch it on your phone. If you must watch it on a mobile device, then maybe iPad is more suitable." Scorsese said that although the film is really long, it can still attract and maintain people's attention.

Martin Scorsese said: "I'm not saying this because I want to show off, 'Oh, I made it.' This movie has an interesting narrative structure that I can relate to every time I watch it. I think I covered all aspects of the narrative in the movie in a pretty interesting way, including how to watch the movie. Ideally, I want you to go to the theater and experience it on the big screen from beginning to end. And I know that this movie is very long and you have to go to the bathroom or do something else while watching it. But if you watch it at home, I think if you can take an evening or an afternoon and don't answer the phone or leave too many times to do other things in the middle, you may also have a good experience."

As for making a movie specifically for a phone, Scorsese said he never had. "I don't know how to do that. I wish I could. I don't know how to shoot a movie with a phone. I just can't figure it out."
