Foreign media rated the top 100 movies of the decade, and "The Assassin" became the only Chinese film on the list

Recently, the film review website The Playlist selected the top 100 movies of the 2010s, choosing the 100 best movies of the past decade for the audience. The top ten are "Burning", "A Separation", "The Act of Killing", "The Master", "The Tree of Life", "Moonlight Boy", "Inside Llewyn Davis", "Dogtooth", "Under the Skin" and "Toni Erdmann".

The movie "The Assassin" is the only Chinese-language film on the list, ranking 40th. Director Hou Hsiao-hsien won the Best Director Award at the 68th Cannes International Film Festival for this film.

The Playlist commented on The Assassin: "Since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, no film has been as sophisticated in creating a martial arts genre as Hou Hsiao-hsien's The Assassin." "Watching The Assassin, you will enter a transcendental visual meditation: with the hypnotic slow-shaking and long shots of cinematographer Li Pingbin, the leaves rustle, the breeze blows through the thin curtains, and the candlelight flickers and sways." "Hou Hsiao-hsien does not glorify violence because he recognizes that violence is inevitable and respects the dignity of retreating from fighting."

The Playlist particularly emphasizes that the selected films are based on their release dates in the United States. For example, although Greta Gerwig's new work "Little Women" can be selected, it will not be released until the end of this year, so it cannot be included in the list.
