The reason is too real! Obi-Wan from "Star Wars" said he no longer opposes the cross-hand lightsaber

Ever since Kylen Law's red cross-guard lightsaber first appeared in the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it has been the focus of some fans' debate. Ewan McGregor, who plays Obi-Wan, once stood on the opposing side, but according to a recent interview, he has accepted this setting to some extent.

Back in January 2015, McGregor revealed his thoughts on the crossguard lightsaber to Vanity Fair: "I'm skeptical of the new crossguard lightsaber. If you know how to use a lightsaber like we do, you don't need a crossguard like that. That's one mistake I think they may have made."

However, during an appearance on the latest Conan O'Brien show, McGreger changed his mind for a very real reason: Obi-Wan now wants his lightsaber to have a guard - to prevent injury during filming of the lightsaber combat sequences.

McGreger explained: "The lightsabers we filmed were made of metal... but when you're fighting, you're in a swordfight and you're fighting for a long time. And then when you're fighting, because it's two metal blades in full contact, sometimes the metal blades will slide down the other side. In the past, when swords were still the mainstream weapon, the design of the hilt guard also served to prevent the blade from sliding down the hand, but the lightsaber doesn't have it! Because the Jedi Master doesn't need the hilt protection."

"So when you're filming, the other person's knife will slip off your knife from time to time - and then hit you directly on your knuckles, and it hurts so much that you have to squat in the corner to slow down."

Therefore, even though Obi-Wan, a Jedi Master, was initially opposed to the "evil" lightsaber with a cross gauntlet; Ewan McGregor, as a mortal, could not stand the pain of metal hitting his knuckles and could only say that the gauntlet was really nice.
