Thor talks about the prequel to Mad Max: finally getting rid of the superhero rules

Chris Hemsworth says he was able to throw out the superhero "rules" for Mad Max prequel Mad Max: Fury , even though his character still wears a cape and he finds them "very impractical."

Hemsworth usually plays charming hero types, having played Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but in the Mad Max prequel, he plays the evil warlord Dementus - but he's not giving up the cape. Hemsworth said it was fun to play a different type of character, but the cape was purely coincidental.

Hemsworth said: "It was a real transformation, and it felt good... I almost said it was good not to have a cape, but... I do have a cape in this movie, and it's red — or it will be red eventually. It's ridiculous."

The actor continued, "It wasn't meant to be a comparison to Thor, but I found it to be a great transformation. It was fun to play a villain, to transform and have a completely different physique. I fell in love with it. That was the real appeal."

Despite the fact that capes are a sartorial necessity for Hemsworth as an actor, he is not a big fan of wearing them. He said he hates them because they are "very impractical," recalling a sleeveless cape for Thor that was "about a foot shorter than a normal cape" but was impractical because he "kept tripping over it."

In Mad Max: Fury, Hemsworth was able to "get it dirty and get grimy and ugly and violent and messy, rather than being stuck in the somewhat predictable heroic framework of a superhero movie," he noted. "[In superhero movies] there are a lot of rules you have to follow. And in this movie, I was able to throw them out there, and that felt good."

Will Hemsworth don the superhero cape again in a new Thor movie? In a recent interview, he said that he felt he deserved another Thor movie for fans, as he admitted that he "didn't have it all right" with Thor: Love and Thunder.
