Live-action director wants to turn The Legend of Zelda into a series of films

Wes Ball, who directed the Maze Runner series and the upcoming Planet of the Apes, will direct the live-action Legend of Zelda film, working with Avi Arad, the Oscar-winning producer of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Derek Connolly, the screenwriter of Jurassic World.

During a Reddit Q&A, Boll answered fan questions about the development of a live-action Legend of Zelda film while promoting the upcoming Planet of the Apes movie, and he expressed his desire to further explore the narrative and characters of the series if the film is successful.

Although Boll didn't reveal many details about the film's development, he said he is very passionate about the Legend of Zelda series and will "do everything in my power to create a great work for the fans." During the Q&A event, when asked if there are plans to expand the series if the film is successful, Boll briefly replied: "Yes, we very much hope to continue telling stories and developing characters."

Boll was also asked what lessons he learned from making Planet of the Apes that he could apply to the live-action Legend of Zelda film. He responded: "Put your money where your mouth is, be ambitious, have faith in the talent around you, and try to make something great."

Although he couldn't reveal too many details about the "Legend of Zelda" project, when John Cena was asked by a fan whether he would play the fairy Navi who guides the protagonist Link, he couldn't help but respond: "Who knows." Maybe there was a teasing smile on his face.

Boll shared his hopes and dreams for the film in an interview with CBS in March, hoping that it would become an important part of the world of The Legend of Zelda fans. "I thought about this for a long time, and I wanted to fulfill people's greatest wishes. I know that The Legend of Zelda series is important to people, and I wanted it to be a serious movie, a real movie, and give people an escapist experience."

Nintendo is teaming up with Sony Pictures to produce a live-action Legend of Zelda movie, and there's no official timeline for it yet, but fans are hopeful that it will turn out just as well as Ball envisioned.
