Deadpool screenwriter is thinking about the next movie

The first two Deadpool movies set a huge stage for this unconventional superhero, and with Disney's acquisition of Fox, that stage is likely to get even bigger.

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the screenwriters for the first two Deadpool movies, were promoting their new film, Zombieland: Double Tap, when they were asked about the possibility of their involvement in Deadpool 3 and subsequent Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

"The plan and expectation is that Marvel will allow us to continue writing the R-rated Deadpool universe, and then hopefully over time we can play a little bit in the sandbox of the Marvel Cinematic Universe," Reese said. "But nothing has been decided yet."

When asked about the general plan, they said they had given a lot of thought to it, but it was not convenient to reveal too much now.

"Marvel has a very rich universe with heroes and villains. So we're looking forward to seeing Deadpool enter that universe in an interesting way. It's just a matter of finding the right way and timing."

"Also, Ryan Reynolds is busy, and this acquisition has delayed everything because you can't be sure of the plan. Marvel Studios is sorting out the next version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that's obviously their best option. If you throw Deadpool in there, plus the X-Men, it's crazy."

Wernick added: "But just like with Zombieland, we're going to wait and see until we have the best plan. This is a special project for all of us. It's a project that deserves to be presented with spectacular and wonderful ideas. We will continue to exchange ideas with Ryan until we have the final plan, and then we may start writing the script."

"Zombieland 2" will be released in North American theaters on October 18. It is a comedy film about the zombie apocalypse.
